Abuse of child grants has devalued parenthood says ACDP

ACDP Gauteng Leader and MPL, Dr Lydia Meshoe

“The ACDP is appalled at the horrific physical and sexual abuse inflicted on Baby Samantha,” said National President of the ACDP’s Women of Destiny Dr Lydia Meshoe (MPL) today.

“Although a number of factors, including alcohol abuse, were involved in making this little girl’s short life one of misery and brutality, this case is a symptom of the de-valuing of parenthood caused by the widespread abuse of child support grants in our country.”

“Instead of being regarded as a noble calling to raise the leaders of the future, these days parenthood is often just a means to obtain a few hundred Rands a month, and children are reduced to income-generating commodities.”
