Success is possible for all Grade 12s says ACDP

“Success is possible for all Grade 12s,” said Gauteng MPL and ACDP provincial leader Dr Lydia Meshoe (MPL) today after visiting Mpontsheng Secondary School in Katlehong to assess their state of readiness for the 2014 school year

“Mpontsheng Secondary had all its teachers and learners present, and a new principal. The only challenge appeared to be a mistake with respect to the delivery of textbooks.”

“In 2012 Mpontsheng’s Matric pass-rate was 48%, but in 2013 it increased to 68,75% as a result of the Department’s Secondary School Intervention Programme and the help of the Star For LifeNGO which ran various programmes and placed a counsellor at the school.”

“Mpontsheng’s 20% Matric pass-rate improvement within the space of one year is remarkable, but the ACDP believes that a 100% Matric pass-rate is possible – even with a pass-mark of 50% instead of the current 30% or 40%.”

“The school, however, faces challenges that are common to many public schools in the province, such as teacher absenteeism, drug abuse and child-headed households.”
