ACDP WELCOMES 08000-RESCUE 24-HR TOLL FREE HELPLINE FOR HUMAN TRAFFICKING VICTIMS AND REPORTING OF SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOUR

Posted by Hon Cheryllyn Dudley, MP on 29 January 2010
ACDP MP and spokesperson on human affairs, Cheryllyn Dudley said today:

"The ACDP welcomes the 24-hour toll-free helpline for victims and members of the public to report human trafficking on 08000-RESCUE which is a joint initiative between The Salvation Army and BE HEARD, an anonymous tip-off organization.

The ACDP is dedicated to seeing legislation enacted as soon as possible aimed at preventing people from getting recruited or sold for labour, to beg or hawk on the streets, or prostitution.

We applaud the media, civic leaders, church ministers, theatre groups and community workers for the work they are doing to alert men, women and children to the dangers of trafficking.

Awareness campaigns to ensure children are left with trustworthy carers during the day are extremely important and must be stepped up particularly since schools will be closed during the World Cup from
June 11th to July 11th."
