ACDP Commends Deputy Minister of Education
Cheryllyn Dudley MP - ACDP
Monday, 10 September 2001
Cheryllyn Dudley MP for the African Christian Democratic Party today
commended Deputy Minister of Education, Mr Mosibudi Mangena on his clear
message to schools citing fidelity to one partner as imperative if the
spread of HIV was to be stopped.
Mrs Dudley said that since political leaders and educators alike have
taken on the responsibility for teaching our children sex education in
schools, they must take responsibility for what they teach especially in
light of the HIV/ Aids epidemic. Our children must be taught right from
wrong, so that when they are faced with difficult choices in the future
they will remember and do what is right. "Children need to know that a
condom will not protect them from HIV and that the only real prevention
of HIV/AIDS is sexual abstinence before marriage and faithfulness in
marriage. Statistics reveal that there are, almost 15 failures per 100
sexual acts "protected" by condoms and yet we are expected to believe
that the HIV virus, 450 times smaller than sperm, can be magically
blocked by a condom."
Mrs Dudley said that the ACDP supports the Deputy Minister in his call
for leaders to be diligent to their vocation. "Education is a passport
to life, and our children should not be short changed," said Mrs Dudley.
