NOTICE MOTION : Franco-German Agreement

That the House:


1. Notes the recent Franco-German agreement, which effectively ensures the retention of farm subsidies in the EU.

2. Notes also that the increasing use of the strategy of bilaterals on contentious issues has the potential to undermine negotiations at the WTO.

3. Notes that the Franco- German agreement seriously undermines the next round of trade negotiations.

4. Calls upon the EU member states to put pressure on France to reconsider its position on farm subsidies as these are having a negative impact on the economies of developing nations especially in Africa.

5. Also calls on government to rethink its economic policies of entirely opening up the economy to a closed protective global economy instead of putting measures to ensure self-sufficiency.
