ANC opposes ACDP motion calling for an end to the slogan "Kill the farmer, kill the boer"

Kent Durr MP (NCOP) - ACDP

Wednesday, June 19, 2002

In Parliament yesterday, Kent Durr, National Council of Provinces member and MP for the African Christian Democratic Party, gave the following motion without notice calling for an end of the use of what he called, “the outdated political slogan, 'Kill the farmer, kill the boer.'" The ANC however opposed the motion.

The House calls upon all who use or encourage the outdated political slogan “Kill the farmer, kill the boer”, to refrain from doing so in future.

It was a slogan created for a different time in different circumstances and now amounts to unconstitutional hate speech.

The House endorses the need for ongoing reconciliation and reconstruction of our society.

(This motion was opposed by the ANC members)
