ACDP commends Mandela

The African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) commends former president Nelson Mandela for telling the public that his only surviving son, Makgatho, died from AIDS.

“He did what IFP Leader, Mangosuthu Buthelezi, did last year. This sets an example for all leaders and parents not to hide the facts about the devastating affects of HIV/AIDS. It is a disease that does not respect the status of anyone.” said ACDP President, Reverend Kenneth Meshoe.

“We believe that while ‘coming out’ about the facts of AIDS is good for the country, after the death of a loved one, we never-the-less believe that it is much more important to ‘come out’ before AIDS sufferers die so that they can get the necessary support from those who care.”

“People are always told that AIDS kills. And young people need to know that people, regardless of social status, can and will die of AIDS. This, we believe will bring home the important message about behavioural change.”
