SADC and AU guilty as Mugabe
Rev Kenneth Meshoe, MP
The silence of approval by African leaders amid the suffering of the Zimbabwean people caused by their hero and friend President Robert Mugabe must be condemned in the strongest possible terms.
The African Union (AU) should equally be condemned for refusing to order Mugabe to stop persecuting the people of his own country whose only crime seems to be supporting opposition parties.
It is a shame that both Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the AU leadership have failed to speak out against Mugabes aggression towards the poor people in his own country.
Their (SADC and AU) dont care attitude regarding the suffering of millions of fellow Africans exposes their hidden personal agendas that have nothing to do with good governance or the development of the African continent.
Their silence and indifference to the human rights abuses in Zimbabwe make them as guilty as President Robert Mugabe is.
Furthermore, the leaders of the G8 nations would be equally guilty of condoning suffering and oppression on the African continent if they agree to give more money to our begging African leaders without first demanding that the AU condemn Mugabes actions and be seen to be doing something to restore good governance in Zimbabwe.
It is equally a shame that the ANC government that had leaders all over the world demanding international sanctions against South Africa during apartheid is today approving Mugabes logic defying actions and saying that the human rights abuses in Zimbabwe are an internal matter.
To that the ACDP says shame, shame, and shame.
We call on all peace loving Africans to demand that SADC and the AU leaders break their silence and start speaking on behalf of their fellow poor and suffering Africans.
