SA loan to Zim unavoidable
Adv. Mighty Madasa, MP

Although the proposed financial loan by the South African government to Zimbabwe leaves a bitter taste our mouths, it is unavoidable economically speaking. If the Zimbabwe economy collapses further, the South African economy will be the first to bear the consequences as the two economies are inextricably linked.

Under these circumstances, providing help is a lesser evil. Given that this is a matter of national importance and that it involves taxpayers’ money we would implore President Thabo Mbeki to brief leaders of all political parties on his reasoning and decision.

A parallel can be drawn between SA helping Zimbabwe and Western governments conducting business with China despite complaining bitterly about the latter’s terrible human rights record.
