ACDP welcomes Constitutional Court Order

African Christian Democratic Party MP Mr. Steve Swart today welcomed interim Constitutional Court order given this morning, which postpones the hearing of the validity of the Crossing the Floor legislation to the 6th of August.

Mr Swart said that the ACDP has been on record as opposing this legislation in Parliament since November last year. He said, “We believe the amending legislation is wrong minded and that it is at best premature in view of the Van Zly Slabbert Commission.”

The ACDP has intervened as a co-applicant with the UDM in proceedings, and will be given the opportunity to file papers regarding the validity of the package of Crossing the Floor legislation. “We trust that this court order will bring stability to the recent political uncertainty, pending the final outcome in the Constitutional Court,” said Mr Swart.
