ACDP calls on government to address the needs of the landless
Cheryllyn Dudley MP - ACDP
Thursday, 2 August 2001
In a statement today Cheryllyn Dudley MP and spokesperson on Land
Affairs for the African Christian Democratic Party, said that in the
interests of law and order, the ACDP supports the court order forbidding
invasions of land bordering the N2 highway. She did however call on
Provincial and National Government, who have the mandate and resources
to redistribute government land to house the poor, to speedily address
the urgent needs of people in this specific area, especially those
affected by floods during the recent heavy rains.
The ACDP condemned the recent attempts to mislead poor people with false
promises of land and called on government to see that those responsible
are penalized and made to make restitution for the additional hardships
experienced by those innocent people who they misled.
