ACDP Calls for fixed Paraffin Price

Cheryllyn Dudley MP

Tuesday, 24 July 2001

Cheryllyn Dudley MP and spokesperson on Minerals and Energy for the
African Christian Democratic Party, today commended the Minister of
Minerals and Energy on reducing the price of petrol by 19 cents, as from
next Wednesday.

Mrs Dudley called on the Minister to be even more courageous and
drastically reduce the price of paraffin even further. Mrs Dudley said
that to ensure that the drop in price would in fact be passed on to the
end user, the retail price would have to be fixed. She said that in
light of the cold winters we are experiencing and the many South
Africans living in informal settlements, the Ministry of Minerals and
Energy should do everything in it's power to ensure people living in
these icy conditions are at least able to afford paraffin for cooking
and warmth.
