ACDP Calls for a reduction in the Paraffin Price
Cheryllyn Dudley MP
Friday 31 August 2001
Cheryllyn Dudley MP and spokesperson on Minerals and Energy for the
African Christian Democratic Party, said today that while the reduction
of the price of petrol by a further 8 cents was welcome and likely to
positively effect consumer confidence and in turn our economy, the fact
that the paraffin price will remain the same is disappointing.
Mrs Dudley, who had previously called on the Minister to drastically
reduce the price of paraffin but sadly to no avail, said, "In light of
the cold winters we are experiencing and the many South Africans living
in informal settlements, the Ministry of Minerals and Energy should do
everything in it's power to ensure people living in these icy and wet
conditions are at least able to afford paraffin for cooking and warmth."
