ACDP MP Cheryllyn Dudley has welcomed the National Gender-based Violence and Femicide Summit which takes place today at St Georges Hotel in Centurion.

The National Gender-based Violence and Femicide Summit comes after the Total Shutdown movement, whom which the ACDP stood in solidarity with outside the gates of Parliament on 1 August this year. In Pretoria, under the same banner, and on the same day, women and gender non-conforming people marched on the Union Buildings to hand the President a memorandum of demands.

The countrywide marches were a response to the large number of women, children who are abused or killed by men in South Africa.

Over 1000 delegates comprising government, civil society organisations, traditional leaders, academics, faith based organisations, organised labour, business, and youth are expected to attend.

Dudley says that, “The ACDP applauds government’s show of commitment to eradicate gender-based violence in all of society.”
