The African National Congress (ANC) cannot stand against gender-based violence and the exploitation of women, whilst continuing to endorse the executive and deputy mayors of Kannaland Local Municipality who were convicted of sexual misconduct against minors.
To show that it is serious about bringing an end to the scourge of gender-based violence, the ACDP’s Women of Destiny leader in the Western Cape, Marie Sukers MP, calls on the ANC to remove both the executive mayor and his deputy from the Kannaland Local Municipality.
Kannaland is among the poorest and most dysfunctional municipalities in the Western Cape. It comprises all the elements that created a cesspool of corruption, mismanagement, and a lack of accountability.
The 2021 local government election campaigns in the Karoo were marked by vote-buying with cheap wine and braaivleis. These same people, who continue to lament the historical exploitation of our ancestors, and lay claim to our heritage, employ the exact same exploitative tactics in order to gain power!
Kannaland is a microcosm of the country that we live in, and now its leaders present to us the cracked foundations of poor leadership. It is a mirror of the desperation and character of the ANC that allows for this to happen.
One cannot claim to fully endorse 16 Days of Activism campaigns, while on the other hand we too endorse violence and exploitation. The ANC and every bedfellow of such immoral leaders stand on the wrong side of history. They are not vanguards of our nation; they are what nations fear the most – immoral leaders without compassion, integrity, and conscience!
Never again mention the name of Charlotte Maxeke and Albert Luthuli, because their legacy is no longer yours to claim.
