Our Leaders

ACDP First Couple, Rev Kenneth and Lydia Meshoe

Rev Kenneth Meshoe MP

A great visionary and leader, Reverend Kenneth Meshoe MP started out as a teacher before embarking on a successful career as a pastor and political leader.

Rev Meshoe founded the African Christian Democratic Party in December 1993, believing that Christians should be in positions of leadership at the forefront of change in South Africa, to ensure that our country is a blessed and prosperous nation. Apart from a brief absence between June and November 2013, Rev Meshoe has been a member of the National Assembly since 1994.

Rev Kenneth Meshoe and his wife, Lydia, also run a successful church called Hope of Glory Tabernacle which accommodates around 4,000 congregants.

ACDP Deputy President, Cllr Wayne Thring

Cllr Wayne Thring

ACDP Deputy President, Councillor Wayne Thring, joined the ACDP in 1995 after being invited to an ACDP meeting at the Mariannridge Community Hall. He was then elected to the position of Deputy Chairman in KZN and subsequently to the position of Chairman in 1997, a position he held for over 10 years. He was later elected to the position of Provincial Leader and is currently the ACDP’s Deputy President.

Wayne represented the ACDP in the Ethekwini Metro as Councillor between 2000 and 2013. There, he held the position of ACDP Whip and Caucus Leader, and was a member of the Economic and Development Committee. He was one of the longest serving Councillors on that committee (over 11 years).

The ACDP earned the respect of all political parties in the Ethekwini Metro, and continues to hold its own against the bigger parties in terms of debates, motions to Council, and the various other inputs they make.

Between June and November 2013, Wayne served alongside our National Members of Parliament, Cheryllyn Dudley and Steve Swart, as ACDP’s third member in the National Assembly in Cape Town. While there, he held the position of ACDP Parliamentary Leader and his Portfolio Committees and interests included Economic Development and Trade and Industry.

Presently Wayne represents the ACDP in the eThekweni Municipality and is the Caucus Leader.

ACDP Chairman, Jo Ann Downs

Jo-Ann Downs

ACDP Chairman, Jo-Ann Downs, has a Masters degree in Public Policy and Management, which she used to good effect while serving on  Finance and Public Accounts committees. As the former Chairperson of the KwaZulu-Natal Public Accounts Committee, she was so effective in exposing mismanagement and corruption in the Province that she was ‘relieved’ of her duties by the ruling party.

Jo-Ann has been a member of the ACDP since 1993 and has served in many leadership roles on both a provincial and national level: most notably, as Deputy President. In 2010, Jo-Ann was elected to the role of National Chairman.
